It can be in the form or of a temporary or permanent restraining order that protects someone (person, company, entity, etc.) from violence, assault, stalking, etc by keeping the offending party a certain distance from the victim(s) and barring communication. In terms of a temporary restraining order (shortened to TRO) for family law cases, the court keeps conditions as they are (ex. not taking a child out of the county or not selling marital property) until there can be a hearing in which both parties are present.
