I Officially Achieved “Cool Dad” Status

I’ve been at this fatherhood thing for almost seven years and depending on the day, sometimes my kids really admire me — other times, they don’t want to be seen with me (this is the case for any public dance party I decide to start). However, I finally found something that made me the most popular dad on my block.

Quick backstory –

We needed more space for my two young daughters so we sold our condo and bought a new house with a backyard. Our yard isn’t all that big and we needed a playset that could maximize the space we had and be super-fun for the kiddos. Thankfully the good folks at Step2 stepped up big time (pun completely intended) with their Naturally Playful Adventure Lodge Play Center. I make no secrets about the fact that I love Step2 and their products. As a matter of fact, I wrote about their Lifestyle Dream Kitchen recently. This is another home run product.

It has a rope wall, a two-story playhouse, two swings, and a cool little basketball hoop on the side. What I love about it is it’s made out of sturdy plastic instead of wood which will help ensure its durability in the elements. I also love that the directions for assembly were super-clear and easy to follow.

You may be wondering — “What’s the recommended age for something like this?” Well, my daughters are 6 and 4 respectively, and we’ve had kids ranging from 2 to 9 come over to play. First up — my nieces who are 6 and 8, came over to play with my girls.

But once the word got out on our block that we had this Play Center, the neighborhood kids had to stop by to check it out. All I’ll say is my doorbell is constantly ringing with kids asking to play in our backyard, and you know what? I absolutely LOVE it. When I was growing up, my house was the place for the kids in my ‘hood to hang out, and it makes me so happy to see that my house is now that place.

And yes, in the opinions of my kids and the children in the neighborhood, I’m now known as the “cool dad.” I guess that’s worth something, right?

It’s the holiday season and I know a lot of you are in the market for gifts for your little ones. I cannot stress this enough — your kids will absolutely love this Play Center from Step2. It’s durable, reasonably priced, looks great, doesn’t take up a ton of space, and is straightforward to assemble.

But that’s not even the best part. This may sound corny, but with the way the world currently is right now, it gives me joy and hope to see kids of all backgrounds happy and playing together. If more adults can view life through the eyes of our children, the world would instantly become a better place.

Big ups to Step2 for not only making a phenomenal Play Center, but for creating a product that creates so much happiness for grownups and kids alike. There is no doubt that this will be a part of our family for many years to come.
