coParent Divorce: Should You Fight It?
If you are a coParent on the receiving end of the request for a divorce and don’t want it to happen, you may be tempted to fight it.
You may be feeling hurt, sad, and desperate to keep the life you thought you had going. Don’t. Legally, you cannot force someone to stay married to you. If you try to fight it, in the end, you only hurt yourself financially due to the costs involved in dragging out the inevitable.
There is also a very real chance your self-esteem will take a serious hit when you try to hold onto someone who has made it clear he or she wants to move on. You are worth more than that!
Strategizing and working with professionals is just as critical for you as it is for someone who is seeking a divorce. Letting it happen to you rather than being an active participant will put you at a financial, emotional and legal disadvantage. You need to stand up for what is right and fair so you can move on to the next phase of your life with your self-respect and dignity intact.
