Conscious Uncoupling
The ending of a romantic relationship or marriage in a respectful, positive, and constructive way. A term used by one or more parties to a marriage, romantic relationship, civil union etc. to announce its ending, yet, at the same time, assure the public, in general, that the decision was made only after careful and immense thought, reflection, consideration and remorse. Not to be confused with a rash, unthinking or unconscious split-up, break-up, divorce or the like. Conscious uncoupling, compared to an uncoupling that is not respectful, positive, and constructive, helps a child and family move forward more easily, and helps prevent internal damage to the family structure.
